Visual Studio crash

Hello,

after doing the following steps, VS crashes:

- Start Visual Studio
- Open WinGDB about-dialog with menu "WinGDB->About"
- Close Visual Studio

This error exists with VS2005 and VS2008.

Is it v1.2? If so, then WinGDB crash-handler should catch it hmmm... is it just standard crash of windows-application with common windows dialog?

yes, it is V1.2 build 311. The error dialog is the same as in http://www.wingdb.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=180.

The error is reproducible on different machines (tested with Win XP SP3).

And on all machines VisualStudios are German version?
In fact crash-handler may not work, because at exit WinGDB add-in may be already unloaded.

By the way does About dialog look properly (second step from your description in first mail)?

It seems to me, that I'll have to download German version and try to reproduce it

the crash is also reproducible with VS2008 english version. It does not matter whether it is registered or trial version.

The about-dialog seems to be correct, I attached a screenshot of it.

A log file is not written during the described steps.

I've made some experiments on some machines (Vista/XP - VS2005/VS2008) on build 311, but cannot reproduce the problem

Please write what are the configuration on which you experience the crash - system version and language, visual studio version and language. Do you have any configuration where that crash doesn't happen?

p.s.
German version of VStudio is just downloading (I thought MSDN service will be much faster)

I have following system configurations:

not working (crash when closing vs):
- Windows XP Professional Version 2002 Service Pack 3 german
- Visual Studio 2005 Professional Version 8.0.50727.762 (SP.050727.7600) german
- Visual Studio 2008 Professional Version 9.0.30729.1 SP german
- Visual Studio 2008 Professional Version english

working (no crash):
- Windows 7 german
- Visual Studio 2005 english
- Visual Studio 2008 english

hmmm so the conslusion is that Win7 is better than WinXP of course just kidding

OK, but more seriously - does this problem concerns About command only? What if you run any other command (without any further launch or debugging), close and just exit VS - does crash happen like in case of 'About' dialog?


Anyway it seems to me, that we will have to prepare some better diagnostics. But formerly we will hunt bug with context menu in German VS - we suspect that WinGDB option is invisible due to version other than English (in your case German).

There are some "under hood" changes in About dialog. If you still experience GPF, then please let us know.
